OneNote Course Package: Fundamentals and Advanced Techniques for Efficient Digital Note Management with Holger Wöltje

OneNote – Course Bundle (Overview)

OneNote is the note-taking system included in Microsoft Office. Many users of the Office suite have yet to discover it or have only „experimented“ with its basic functions—yet it is a highly powerful application that brings many of the advantages of paper notes into the digital realm. It’s easy to use, allows full-text searching of all content, and perfectly complements Outlook by adding a „strategic“ planning layer above your appointments and tasks, along with detailed notes (meeting minutes, research, ideas, etc.). Discover and take advantage of digital notes with OneNote—keeping the essentials always in view, always at hand, and fully searchable—as the ideal complement to Outlook for your daily work, planning, and ideas!

In this course package, Holger Wöltje shows you the benefits OneNote offers, how the structure of the notes system is organized, how to use it properly, how to create good page titles, and how to use the search function to instantly find, for example, project and event preparations as well as see the current status when your boss calls unexpectedly and asks for an update. You’ll discover how to create idea collections, structure planning steps, and link follow-up tasks with Outlook—whether for planning a major publication, your next marketing campaign, improvements for the development of your next product version, or implementing follow-up tasks from a recurring meeting.

You’ll learn how to use templates (e.g., for project meetings), keep track of recent changes, visually highlight important content with categories and list them across pages, create handwritten notes, and search even those by full text. You’ll also learn how to create links to notes as well as between notes, and how to transfer an email to a OneNote page with just a few clicks (e.g., to jot down questions and follow-up tasks, record answers and additional tasks during a follow-up phone call, and keep an eye on the completion status at all times).

OneNote Fundamentals Course

If you haven’t used OneNote yet or have only „experimented“ with its basics, this course will show you the benefits and most important features of the program in under 90 minutes. Among other things, you’ll learn how to:

  • create and edit your notes, understand the structure (organization & benefits of OneNote notes),
  • build idea collections and extensive research,
  • mark tasks in OneNote and link them with Outlook,
  • transfer an email to a OneNote page with just a few clicks (e.g., to jot down questions and follow-up tasks, add the answers during a phone call, and keep an eye on the completion status), as well as
  • find all content at any time using full-text search and open it directly with one click.

OneNote Advanced Course I

Building on the foundational course, this first advanced course shows you how to further optimize and structure your notes so you can always keep an eye on the essentials and the current completion status. Among other things, you will learn:

  • how to quickly and easily create checklists,
  • what distinguishes the task category from linked Outlook tasks,
  • how to use hyperlinks between notes as well as reference notes from external programs (e.g., from an Outlook appointment to the results of two other meetings),
  • how to create and format outlines and easily reorder them (e.g., create an idea collection and put it into an implementation sequence),
  • how to work with categories in OneNote, e.g., to quickly capture the status (seen? approved? completed?) and compile them across pages using the category search (e.g., all open questions from all project meetings).

OneNote Advanced Course II

Building on the first two courses, this second advanced course shows you how to further optimize your notes and use OneNote alongside other applications. Among other things, you’ll discover how to:

  • view an older state using page versions (e.g., in case you or your vacation replacement accidentally deleted/overwrote too much last month),
  • open OneNote multiple times (e.g., detailed research alongside the current meeting minutes),
  • use handwriting in OneNote, search it via full text, and insert additional space downward in the middle of a page (to add something),
  • work with page templates (e.g., checklists for vacation handovers and event planning), and
  • quickly keep an eye on all changes from the last few days.
